New vegan dining options: A new vegan food cart has opened at the Garden of Eden (mile marker 10.5 Road to Hana), the Maui Garden Grove CaféAmong its offerings are Hawaiian Curry and Hawaiian Chili over rice, Coconut Glen's ice cream, pineapple upside down cake with a scoop of pineapple banana ice cream.  …  Sprout Vegan Café, formerly a food truck, is now a restaurant at 10 Wailea Gateway Place, B102, Kihei, having officially reopened its doors as a brick-and-mortar location. “Serving the same delicious menu as before but with a few great additions! Now offering dine-in, takeout, or order delivery. Indoor and outdoor seating available.” Hours are 9 am to 9 pm, except for Monday, when it closes at 5 pm.

Serving our Community: Thanks to the Aloha Aina Center, the Common Ground Collective has secured its own spot.  With the help of hard-working volunteers, almost 4,000 pounds of fresh local backyard produce has been distributed, 3,638 pounds of was donated to local community members in need and the rest sold to local businesses to help them fill their orders. Common Ground also benefitted from a huge produce donation from PueoKea Farms and matching donation campaign sponsored by Ho’omakua Farms.

March 1944 -Woodwork teacher and vegan pioneer Donald Watson published the first of a two-part article, “Should Vegetarians Eat Dairy Produce?”

March 1946 – Fay K. Henderson produces Vegan Recipes, the first recipe book with “vegan” in the title.

March 1996 – The British Government admits a link between contaminated beef and “New Variant CJD, a condition linked to consumption of beef with Mad Cow Disease.

March 2018 – Alibi, the first hotel restaurant in Australia to serve a 100 per cent plant-based menu, opens.
